7-19 September 2020: Alone Together Again (ATA).
An online symposium at University of Szczecin. We welcome contributions to the second international pandisciplinary symposium on solitude in community: Alone Together Again. This is organised by the University of Szczecin and York St John University, under the auspices of the Rector of the University of Szczecin and the President of Szczecin. All papers, discussions and posters will be held in English.
“We must meet; we must communicate with one another; we must, it would seem, be alone together” (John Macmurray).
Since we sent out our original call for the April 2020 event, the covid-19 pandemic has changed the whole world, and brought issues of solitude to even greater prominence. The event originally planned to take place in Szczecin in April, and then in September, will now take place entirely online. This is not what we had hoped for, but the good news is that the online conference will be free.
We have already had a full programme of papers for the ‘live’ event, and we invite all who had contributed papers to that event to confirm that they would still like to attend, by emailing alonetogether2020@gmail.com. So we welcome papers on any issues related to solitude, silence and loneliness, from any discipline, and from researchers from all over the world. New 300-word abstracts can be sent for review to alonetogether2020@gmail.com until 17th August 2020.
